Mutti's Weihnachtsdecke

MO... NA... TE.. -lang habe ich immer wieder mal ein square nach dem anderen fertiggehäkelt..
hach, und jetzt isses endlich fertig, das werk. die anleitung fuer die squares habe ich irgendwann in irgendeiner zeitung in zusammenhang mit einem pullover gefunden. ich fand das muster hübsch und brauchbar - ausserdem ist es leicht zu häkeln. irgendwann gab es im sommer baumwolle beim aldi, da schlug ich zu und färbte das weiße garn in verschiedenen blautönen - bzw. das garn färbte sich selbst, es machte förmlich, was es wollte. zu meiner grossen freude, da ich das ergebnis eigentlich dufte fand. irgendwo im www fand ich dann eine schöne methode häkelsquares zusammenzuhäkeln, ohne dass alles so gequetscht aussieht. das alles hat ewig gedauert, und ich bin froh, fertig zu sein.

und jetzt tut es mir schon leid, dass ich mich entschieden habe, die decke meiner mutter zu weihnachten zu schenken, wo sie mir selbst so gut gefällt. und ausserdem.... für mich ist es mehr als fraglich, ob meine mutter die ganze arbeit wertschätzt...  ich weine leise vor mich hin....

MONTHS .. -long i crocheted this throw.. and now it's finally finished. the instructions for the squares i found in a journal in connection with a pullover. i thought it was pretty and easy. one day i saw white cotton as a special offer in a supermarket, bought it and dyed it in different shades of blue (it almost happened by itself - the shades i mean). in the internet i finally found a pretty way to crochet the patches together without everything looking too pinched. the whole work really took forever, and i'm glad to be finished. i have given this blanket my mother for Christmas and hope she likes and values it.

Experiment mit Seidenhankies

ich ging schon lange mit dem gedanken schwanger, einmal seidenhankies zu kaufen und damit herumzuexperimentieren. ich fand welche bei woll-knoll, bestellte, färbte, zog die auseinander und liess sie nochmal durch's spinnrad laufen. ich war ganz gerührt von dem ergebnis, muss allerdings sagen dass ich auf dauer schon sehr schmerzen in den händen hatte von ausziehen der hankies, das schneidet ganz schön ein...

und weil ich auch gleich etwas damit stricken wollte, suchte ich mir ein muster aus ravelry aus, es hiess holidays seasons. die schwarze wolle ist feine merino, die ein sehr ordentliches strickbild ergibt (sie kann bei barbara bestellt werden, wenn einer interessiert ist). ich fand die anleitung herrlich und auch gut zu stricken. und mir gefällt mein neues tuch :-)

 i had thought a long time already about buying silk hankies and experimenting with them. i bought some from the internet, dyed them, pulled them apart and sent them through my spinning wheel. i was very captivated by the result, but i must say that i had real pain in my hands from pulling the hankies apart.

and since i also wanted to knit something with it right away i bought a pattern from Ravelry ('holidays seasons'). the black yarn is fine merino from my stash. the pattern is gorgeous - and i like my new shawl:-)

Adventskranz mal anders

wie öde. adventskränze. hm. ich wollte schon einen haben, aber 4 kerzen auf tannenzweigen hatte ich schon lebenslänglich gesehen und war entsprechend gelangweilt. fast schon mürrisch. bis ich ein video sah, in dem man aus strohkern, lichterketten und rohwolle bzw. artyyarn einfach einen adventskranz zusammenwickeln konnte. ich habe mich also hingesetzt und gebastelt. ich find's gut und freu mich auf den ersten advent!  trallaalllalallaaa!

how dreary. advent wreaths. hm. well, yes, i wanted to have one but 4 candles on fir branches was something i had seen already for all my life. i was bored and almost sullen until i saw a video showing  how to fabricate a wreath just from a straw core, lights and raw wool or artyyarn. so i sat down tinkering until it was done. i like it and am looking forward to the first advent! trallaalllalallaaa!

Mein neuer 'bester Freund'

ich glaube ich habe mir einen neuen besten freund gestrickt. ich hatte seit ewigkeiten ein einziges knäuel braunes bouclé-garn, für das ich nie wirklich verwendung hatte. bis jetzt.
TATAAAAAAA!  hier kommt 'stone, the gargoyle' (anleitung gibt es auf ravery). ich habe ihn mit rohwolle gestopft und in arme, beine und flügel pfeiffenputzer eingearbeitet, damit der kleine kerl auch mal die position wechseln kann. ich habe dann eine weile über die position der kulleraugen gerätselt, bis es passte ... - nun, hier ist das ergebnis!

i think i knitted myself a new best friend. since ages i had a single skein of brown bouclé yarn and  never knew what to do with it. until now. TATAAAAAAA! here comes 'stone, the gargoyle' (instructions can be found on ravery). i stuffed it with raw wool and incorporated pipe cleaners into arms, legs and wings so that the little guy can change positions. then i meditated a while about the best position for the plastic eyes ... - well, here is the result!

Noch mehr wunder-weiche Wolle

... und weil ich noch 100 gramm von dieser tollen 'rosy green wool' wolle übrig hatte, konnte ich zu meinem schal noch diese passenden lace-fäustlinge stricken. hach, das passt!

... and because there were about 100 grams left of this great yarn from 'rosy green wool'  i additionally could knit these lace mittens matching for my scarf. yeah - that fits!

Wunder-weicher Winterschal

auf dem letzten ravelry-treff in bonn habe ich die weichste wolle der welt erstanden (so fühlt sie sich zumindest an). sie ist von der firma rosy green wool, die dort einen stand hatte. es war ein 500 gramm strang ungefärbte wolle, und ich habe dieses schöne muster gratis als handout dort dazubekommen. natürlich musste ich den schal stricken - so einen mit solcher wolle habe ich mir schon lange gewünscht.

on the last Ravelry event in Bonn i have bought the softest wool in the world  (so it feels at least). the name of the brand is 'Rosy Green Wool'. it was a 500 gram skein of undyed wool, and i received this beautiful pattern for free as a handout copy. i am very happy. i always wanted a scarf with such a pattern from such a wool.

Verrückte Socken für meine Schwester

noch nie habe ich meiner schwester socken gestrickt. das sollte sich nun ändern. auf meiner weihnachtsliste klaffen noch grosse lücken, das geschenk für meine schwester ist eine davon. ich hatte noch einen wunderbaren schoppel-zauberball mit rot-blauem farbverlauf, der hierfür dran glauben musste. es war nicht möglich, die socken gleich aussehen zu lassen, aber bei den knaller-farbverlauf war mir das letzten endes schnuppe. ich bin über das ergebnis höchst entzückt und hab kurz (nein, lange) darüber nachgedacht, die socken selber anzuziehen. nachdem ich mir aber 'disziplin' auf die stirn geschrieben habe, sind die socken nun ganz brav dort, wo auch schon andere weihnachtsgeschenke auf ihren einsatz warten.

i never ever had knitted socks for my sister. but now! there are still large gaps on my christmas present list, the gift for my sister is one of them. i had a wonderful Schoppel-Zauberball with red and blue gradient, which i wanted to use for this project. even though it has not been possible to make the socks alike (due to the colour-flow) it was all the same to me, since the colours were so smashing.

i am highly pleased with the result and have shortly (no, longer) thought of keeping them for myself. but i am a good girl i will give them on to my sister :-)

Bauhaus-Strick

es ist oktober, und man muss sich schon wieder gedanken über weihnachtsgeschenke machen. nee..... doch. ich hatte seeehr schöne wolle zu hause, die ich gerne in ein projekt für meinen bruder stecken wollte. ich hatte ein paar sehr schöne, schwarze und hellbraune knäuel von ausgezeichneter qualität von barbara aus nürnberg bekommen/bezogen, die ich jederzeit wieder verstricken würde (feine merinowolle, gut gezwirnt, sehr gut zu verstricken mit schönem maschenbild und gutem griff). bei bedarf bitte an barbara wenden. zudem besass ich in meinem vorrat noch altrosé seiden-mischgarn, dunkelbraune bio-schurwolle, beige und dunkelgrüne schurwolle sowie einen kleinen rest viscose-mix von lana grossa. ich hatte irgendwo auf ravelry einen schal im bauhaus-stil gesehen, konnte ihn aber nicht mehr wiederfinden, also habe ich den schal so oder so ähnlich aus der erinnerung gestrickt. ich finde, es ist ein richtiger männerschal geworden, der trotzdem nicht spiessig ist. ich hoffe, mein bruder mag ihn :-)

it is october, and i need to start thinking again about making christmas presents. i had very very nice wool at home which i wanted to use in a project for my brother. there was some black and light brown merino yarn (good quality with a nice grip). moreover, i found in my stash rosé silk yarn, dark brown organic new wool, beige and dark green new wool and a small leftover viscose mix of 'lana grossa'. i once saw a scarf-pattern in Bauhaus-style but could not remember the pattern-name, so i knitted the scarf from my memory. it has become a real mens scarf that is not bourgois anyway. hope my brother likes it :-)

Ein Poncho, oder was soll das sein?

... das fragte ich mich immer wieder, als ich den knitalong 'celtico' von birgit freyer mitstrickte. ich hatte foxleydale-wolle von birgit vor dem spinnen mit 'kool aid'-brausefarben getüncht, die mein ex-chef mir aus den USA mitgebracht hatte, und die wolle dann mit farbverlauf dünn ausgesponnen und einfädig verstrickt. als das konstrukt fertig war, fand ich ein paar schöne tragemöglichkeiten heraus, so dass ich letzten endes doch sehr glücklich über das ergebnis war. die limonadenfarben habe ich im backofen und mit etwas essigwasser fixiert, ich hoffe, sie leuchten in ein paar jahren immer noch. mal sehen.

i really was not sure about the outcome while knitting this KAL 'celtico' by Birgit Freyer. upfront spinning i had dyed some foxleydale wool with 'kool aid' colors which my ex-boss had brought me from the United States. then i had spun a fine yarn with colour-flow and knitted it as a single-thread lace yarn. as the project was done, i found out a couple of nice carrying options, so in the end i was almost happy with the result. the lemonade colors (kool aid) i have fixed in the oven with a shot of vinegar. i hope the project will keep it's colour for the next couple of years. let's see.

Showspinnen in der Steinbreche/Refrath

irgendwann vor dem sommer ging eine anfrage durch's netz, ob es jemanden gibt, der 'einfach so' mal zwei tage in der öffentlichkeit spinnen würde. die steinbreche in refrath feierte im august 300-jähriges bestehen, und so sollte dort auch etwas altes handwerk gezeigt werden. warum nicht. ich meldete mich als 'freiwillige', man stellte mir einen pavillon auf und einen stuhl hin, und so spann ich zwei tage und zeigte meine selbstgesponnenen sachen. ich muss sagen, dass es mir sehr viel spass gemacht hat, denn es kamen doch sehr viel interessierte (auch erwachsene), die gucken und auch gerne selbst ausprobieren wollten.

sometime before summer somebody requested via internet if there is someone who would be able and willing to spin wool in the public for two days . the "Steinbreche" in Refrath celebrated 300-year anniversary and they wanted to show old crafts there. why not. i signed up as a 'voluntary', asked for a gazebo and a chair, and so i spun there two days and showed my homespun stuff. it was a lot of fun to me, because there were many people who wanted to watch me spinning and trying themselves.

Wieso eigentlich Brokat?

eines tages schlenderte ich in köln wieder einmal über einen flohmarkt und fand einen fusshocker. wunderbar, schön, toll, mit knubbelfüssen und einem elfenbeinfarbenen brokatbezug. brokat. na, toll. nachdem der fusshocker nur einen sehr überschaubaren anschaffungswiderstand hatte, sah ich erst mal über den stoff hinweg. zu hause leuchtete mir dann die ganze zeit der hocker mit dem teils glänzenden brokat entgegen. der stoff störte meine kreise. immens. ich strickte einen bezug mit gummiband aus fransengarn und nudelte noch ein strickblümchen  in bordeau mit muschelchen drauf. lalilu.... das leben ist schön...

one day i visited a flea market and found a footstool. wonderful, beautiful, great, with round feet and an off-white brocade covering. brocade. hmm. since the footstool was pretty cheap i forgot about the brocade covering for a moment. but at home then it disturbed me so badly 

that i knitted a cover using fringe yarn and  fastened it with a rubber band. additionally i sewed on a bordeaux knitted flower with a tiny shell. lalilu .... life is beautiful ...

Tag der Arbeit im September?

'labour day' hiess ein knitalong auf ravelry von deby lake. und das ganze im september. na so was. egal, ich habe mitgestrickt, weil ich kürzlich noch schönes foxleydale von birgit bunt gefärbt hatte, das ich nun mit ebenfalls selbstgesponnenem schwarz/grauen garn unbekannter schafsherkunft verzwirnte. irgendwie war es doch eine menge arbeit mit der spinnerei und der zwirnerei, daher war der name labour day wohl doch nicht so schlecht gewählt. das ergebnis ist ein sehr warmes dickes tuch, das von der form eher einem schal ähnelt. aber bei den temperaturen jetzt im oktober schon..... mittlerweile ist er in den besitz einer nachbarin meiner freundin bernadette uebergegangen.

'labour day' was a knitalong on ravelry by 'deby lake'. i joined this KAL since i recently had dyed some beautiful foxleydale yarn which i now twisted with some handspun black / gray yarn. somehow it was a lot of work with the spinning and twisting processes, hence the name labour day was probably very well chosen. the result is a very warm and thick cloth which looks pretty much like a scarf (not a shawlette). in the meantime i have sold it to my friend bernadette who needed it as a present for her neighbour.

Herringbone for Fun

beim stöbern durch die strickmuster der welt stiess ich kürzlich auf das herringbone-muster. es war klassisch schicht und trotzdem irgendwie fesselnd. eigentlich wollte ich einmal einen klassischen, einfachen, eleganten schal machen. aber nee, ich musste wieder mit farben spielen. ich hatte am flohmarkt zwei oder drei völlig zerrupfte baumwoll-knäuel in lustiger färbung gefunden, die ich in mühevoller kleinarbeit zu hause entknotete und aufwickelte. im herringbone muster strickte ich den schal und häkelte aus den resten noch einiges gebimsel, dann strickte ich mit der strickmühle au dunkelblauer sockenwolle eine i-cord, die ich in ornamenten auf den schal nähte. jetzt gefällt er mir. aber klassisch ist er natürlich nicht. schlicht auch nicht. geschweige denn elegant... ach je.

rummaging through the knitting patterns of the world, i recently came across the herringbone pattern. it is conventional and still somehow compelling. actually i once wanted to knit a classic, simple, elegant scarf. but again i could not keep me from playing with colors again. at a flea market i had found two or three cotton hanks - completely ragged in funny coloring. in painstaking efforts i unknotted the skeins and knitted this little shawlette using herringbone pattern. from the leftovers i crocheted some 'decoration'. with my little knitting mill i fabricated some dark blue i-cord and sewed it on in circles/ornaments. now i liked it. but of course it is not a classical shawl anymore ... let alone elegant ... oh dear :-)

'Rockefeller' á la Stephen West

einer meiner lieblingsdesigner startete wieder einmal ein mystery knitalong, das ich dringend mitstricken musste. ich hatte nur die angaben, wieviel garn ich brauchte. gluecklicherweise hatte ich genug handgesponnene und gefärbte wolle zu hause. die orange-gelbe wolle ist foxleydale von birgit, die braune wolle war der rest eines braunen vlieses von pellworm mit etwas türkiser tussahseide aufgepeppt (alles selbst gewaschen, kardiert, gefärbt und gesponnen), die violette schattierung ist ein fliederfarbenes atelier zitron lace-garn zusammen mit einem bordaux/grauen lace-garn von manos del uruguay.
als ich dann sah, wie sich die farben und die form in dem tuch/schal/machwerk entwickelten, war ich richtig froh, wieder mal einen KAL von stephen west mitgestrickt zu haben.

one of my favourite designers started once again a mystery knitalong, which i wanted to attend. fortunately i had enough handspun and self-dyed yarn for this project. the orange-yellow yarn is from 'foxleydale' (a breed between wensleydale and coburger fox wool) , the brown one was a leftover from a brown fleece with some turquoise tussah silk  (all handwashed, karded, dyed and handspun), the violet shade is from a lilac studio zitron lace yarn as well as a bordaux/grey lace yarn of manos del uruguay. when I saw the outsome i was really glad having knitted this KAL of stephen west..

Auf dem Weg zum Arzt...

... begegnete mir eines tages ein wunderschöner strang wolle von 'zwerger garn'. auf der bahnfahrt nach hause hatte ich ihn schon zum knäuel gewickelt, und kaum daheim angekommen hatte ich schon das tuch "arrojo" (ravelry) damit angeschlagen. ich fand die form und die spitze so hübsch. an die - für meinen geschmack etwas langweiligen - seiten habe ich zöpfe aus restgarn angeflochten.

on the way to the doctor one day i found a beautiful skein of 'Zwerger yarn'. on the train back home i had rolled a ball of it, and as soon as i had arrived home i had casted on the pattern "arrojo" (found on 'ravelry'). i found the shape and the border so pretty. to the left and right edges (i found them boring) i added some braids from the same yarn.

Die kleine Bachforelle

ich war völlig entzückt. das muster "kleine bachforelle" auf ravelry brachte mich wirklich auf die knie! lauter kleine fische im zarte lace-schal und die schal-enden wie flossen gearbeitet. und das ganze mit perlen - hach! glücklicherweise hatte mich mein bruder kurz zuvor mit einem kammzug wundervoll zart-gefärbter neuseelandwolle versorgt - in hellen blautönen! jawoll! diesen kammzug habe ich relativ dünn ausgesponnen und mit durchsichtigem PA-garn verzwirnt. es hat einige zeit gedauert, bis ich das muster begriffen hatte, aber dann gab es kein halten mehr. viiieeele perlen gingen drauf: als luftblasen vor dem maul der fische - jeweils eine hinter einem fisch (sozusagen als 'pups') und alle anderen an die schalenden, also in die flossen. durch die vielen perlen hat der schal auch eine angenehme 'schwere' und trägt sich prima.

i was completely charmed. the pattern "small brook trout" on ravelry really brought me to my knees! lots of small fishes knitted in delicate lace and the borders of the shawl were worked like fins. and beads all over! HACH! lucky me - i had (from my brother) some nice new zealand fibers dyed in tender shades of blue. yes! i spun a pretty fine yarn from it and plyed it with a transparent PA thread. it took some time, until i took the pattern, but then there was no stopping. lots of  pearls went on it: as bubbles at the mouth of the fish - each one behind a fish (hit psrt is free to you imagination...) and all the others at the 'fins'. the large amount of beads give the shawl a nice weight, so that it is really nice to wear.

3-Colour Mittens

es gab wieder einmal ein mystery bei ravelry, diesmal sollten es dreifarbige stulpen werden. warum nicht. ich war froh, mal ein paar wollreste sinnvoll einsetzen zu können, also strickte ich mit. ich verwendete ein farbverlauf-sockengarn (grün/braun), selbstgesponnene und -gefärbte wolle (pink/blau) und selbstgesponnenes (verzwirnt mit gold-glitter-faden) garn aus dunkelbraunen alkapa-fasern. das muster hat so viel spass gemacht (und war wirklich gut erklärt), dass ich diese stulpen bestimmt nochmal nachstricken werde. ausserdem kann man die stulpen von jeder seite tragen.

i found nice mystery knit-along at ravelry again  this time it was tri-colored cuffs pattern. why not. i was glad to use up some wool-lefties for this little project. i chose a gradient-sock (green / brown), handspun and -dyed wool (pink / blue) and handspun (twisted with gold-glitter-thread) yarn of dark brown alkapa fibers. the pattern was much fun (and very well explained) so that i will definitely knit this patter again. btw: you can wear these cuffs on either side.

Stulpen mit Stirnband im Norweger-Look

bei irgendeiner wollbestellung lag eines tages ein gratis-knäuel dabei: super-flauschiger dunkelbrauner alpaka-woll-tweed. ich war glücklich. aber was macht man mit einem einzigen knäuel tweed, das nur 76 meter läuft? die lösung war ein norwegermuster mit anderen farben (selbst gesponnen und gefärbt) auf stulpen. was immer davon übrig bleiben sollte, ging ins stirnband. i like it, ich denke die sachen werden jetzt, wo's kühler wird, bald zum einsatz kommen.

in one of my recent wool orders i found a nice gift: a ball of super-fluffy dark brown alpaca wool tweed. i was happy. but what can do you with a single skein that runs only 76 meters? the solution was to knit some mittens with norwegian pattern and combine this free skein with other colors (handspun and self-dyed). the leftovers went into this headband. i like it and since it is getting cooler now i am going to wear the soon.

Die "Gardine"

männer sind manchmal so überflüssig, wie ein kropf. ich hatte das schöne muster "maluka" bei ravelry gefunden und wollte es nachstricken, weil ich die spitze so hübsch fand und das tuch nicht so gross ist. ich brauchte einfach was kleines, feines für hals und decolleté. ich hatte das tuch fast fertig auf der nadel und zeigte es meinem damaligen freund, da sagte dieser "hmm. sieht aus wie 'ne gardine". danke. braucht keiner. ich denke, das hübsche tüchlein ist alles andere als eine gardine. die bilder sprechen hoffentlich für sich. mittlerweile habe ich das tüchlein meiner mutter zum geschenk gemacht.

men sometimes are as needless as a crop. i had found the beautiful pattern "maluka" in ravelry and decided to knit it since the border is so nice and the shawlette is not so large. i just needed something small and fine for neck and décolleté. when i had almost finished the shawlette and showed it to my former boyfriend he mumbled: 'hmm. looks like 'a curtain'. thanks. that was something nobody needs. i think this pretty shawlette is anything but a curtain. i let the pictures speak for themselves. meanwhile i gave it to my mum as a present. 

Nochmal Flügel - diesmal für mich!

nachdem ich meinen "wingspan" verschenkt hatte, war ich doch ein wenig traurig, also musste ich mir wohl einen neuen sticken. diesmal kam ein zauberball von schoppel-wolle zum einsatz mit richtig knalligem farbverlauf. und weil ich ein mädchen bin, musste auch noch ein pailettengarn für die ränder herhalten. tja...

after having given away my 'wingspan' i was a little sad so i knitted another one for myself. this time i used a 'magic ball' by 'schoppel wool' with a striking colour flow. and since i am a girl i crocheted a nice sequins-yarn on all borders.. well ...
