Apropos Sari Seide...

... vergangenes jahr besuchte ich das erste mal ein ravelry-treffen in frechen. das war einfach grossartig! so viele eindrücke, tolle garne, fabelhafte fasern, erstaunliche produkte und diese heerscharen strickender und spinnender frauen. ich fühlte mich plötzlich gar nicht mehr so als aussenseiter :-) ich besuchte stand für stand, rannte stundenlang mandalas im kreis (ich war sicher überall 15 mal) und lief dabei immer wieder an einer tasche aus sari-seide vorbei, deren design ich mir einzuprägen versuchte. es gab dort auch strängeweise bunte (ja. SEHR bunte) sari-seide zu kaufen, und ich schlug zu. daheim habe ich versucht, die dort gesehene tasche nachzustricken. sie ist doch etwas anders geworden, aber ich bin trotzdem zufrieden. das kontrastgarn ist selbstgesponnene schurwolle.

Yesteryear ... i visited for the first time a ravelry-event in Frechen (near Cologne). that was just great! so many impressions, great yarns, fabulous fibers, amazing products and these battalions of knitting and spinning women! and all of a sudden i did not feel as a misfit any longer. 

i visited stall after stall, running around them in circles (i must have been about 15 times at each single sales booth) and discovered a handbag which was knitted with sari-silk. i tried to memorize the design und bought 2 very colourful strands of sari-silk. back home i knitted this bag out of my memory. the result is not exactly what i saw at the ravelry-event, but i'm still happy with the result. the contrast yarn is handspun wool.

Sari-Seide - Eine Entdeckung

ich staunte nicht schlecht, als ich irgendwo im internet das erste mal fasern/garne aus sari seide sah. ich ging also auf die suche danach. irgendwo in frankreich fand ich dann eine adresse und kaufte 500 gramm. zu einem horrenden preis. sie ist nicht so bunt wie viele andere (und verflucht schlecht zu verspinnen), aber das ergebnis zusammen mit feiner schurwolle verzwirnt, hat mich doch erfreut. das ganze mit dunkelbraunem alpaca eingefasst und bemustert und fertig war das werk. ich gebe sie nie wieder her :-)
mittlerweile habe ich noch einen braunen schmetterling aufgehäkelt. foto folgt bei gelegenheit.
falls jemand einen guten sari-seiden händler kennt, wäre ich sehr dankbar für den kontakt... ich würde es gerne nochmal probieren!

i was amazed when i detected fibers from sari silk on the internet for the first time. so i looked for it and found about 500 g in france for a horrendous price. it is not as colorful as many others (and really difficult to spin), but the result plyed together with fine pure wool made ​​me really happy. border and fair-isle-pattern i made from handspun alpaka yarn. these mitts i will keep for the rest of my life. in the meantime i crochetes a butterfly onto one of the mittens. photo follows on occasion. 

if anyone knows a good sari-silk trader, I would be very more than happy for the contact ...

Wollreste - schöner geht's nicht

lange habe ich überlegt, was ich wohl mit den ganzen klitzekleinen, selbstgesponnenen wollresten mache, von denen ich nur noch ein paar wenig meter hatte. umso glücklicher war ich, als ich das muster für diese süssen handschuhe fand (free download bei ravelry: http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/grandmas-mittens-2 ). schön ist, dass der einstieg/das bündchen in die handschuhe etwas länger und weiter ist.

i had a long thought about what to do with all the litte lefties from handspun and self-dyed yarn and was really happy to find the following pattern which allowed me to use up some of my precious left-overs (free download at ravelry: http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/grandmas-mittens-2). i like it that the cuffs are a little longer and wider.

Lace aus Seide

ich konnte mir nicht verkneifen, das wunderschöne buch "knitted lace of estonia" von nancy bush zu bestellen. und sofort fiel mir der "raha-scarf" ins auge. ich färbte tussa-seide in türkis und strickte los. dieser schmale schal hat wirklich spass gemacht, zudem konnte ich mich dabei noch im perlen-einstricken üben.

i could not keep myself from buying the wonderful book "knitted lace of estonia" by nancy bush. i liked the pattern "raha-scarf" and for this project i dyed tussah silk in turquoise, span it and knitted it. this tiny  scarf was really fun, also i could exercise by bead-knitting skills.

Nie wieder Pompon-Wolle

ich wollte ja unbedingt mal etwas mit pompon-wolle stricken. nun hatte ich den salat. ich kam überhaupt nicht zurecht. erstens läuft das zeug nur wenige meter, zweitens hat es mich einiges an zeit und nerven gekostet, zu verstehen, dass ich pro masche genau einen pompon stricken kann. damit hat es dann auch geklappt. das knäuel reicht nur für einen kleinen cowl um den kinderhals meiner kleinen nichte. und es war mal wieder mit pink. das war wichtig :)
aber ganz ehrlich, mit hat es keinen moment spass gemacht, das ding zu stricken, ich kaufe das zeug einfach nicht mehr.

i urgently  wanted to knit something using pompon-wool. now i had to face the music.. i had nothing but problems. it had taken me a lot of time and nerves, to understand that i needed to knit one stitch by one pompom. nothing else was possible. the ball was just enough for a small cowl around the neck of my little niece. and the cowl was partly pink. that was important :) 

but honestly, knitting that thing was no moment fun and i will never ever buy that stuff again.

Lampen umstricken?

ja, das geht! ich fand auf dem sperrmüll das fragment eines kleinen, wirklich hässlichen lampenschirms und überlegte, was man damit wohl anstellen könnte. naja, die wollsucht hat alle fragen beantwortet. ich verstrickte mehrfädig und schön bunt wolle und baumwolle und achtete darauf, dass die glühbirne keinen kontakt und/oder ausreichend platz innerhalb des lampenschirms hat, damit da nichts ankokelt...
was mich überraschte war, wie schön das licht durch das gestrick scheint. das ist fast romantisch. es wird wohl nicht die letzt lampe sein, die ich umstricken werde.

beknitting lamps? yes, we can! on the bulky waste i found the naked fragment of a small, really ugly lampshade and wondered what i possibly could do with it. well, my wool-mania has answered the question. i knitted multiple threads of colourful wool and cotton around the lampshade making sure that the bulb did not get in touch with the wool. i was surprised how nicey the light shines through the knitting  - almost romaticly..  i think i'll make more of that.

Auch Männer brauchen Handschuhe ....

.... so auch mein bruder. er wohnt in berlin, wo die winter bekanntlich grässlich kalt sind. ich verspann gotlandwolle und strickte einfache fäustlinge mit eine zopfmuster in der mitte.  ich hoffe, sie halten schön warm :-)

men also need gloves, as well as my brother. he lives in berlin, where the winters are ghastly cold. so i spun gotland wool and knitted mittens with a simple cable pattern . i hope they keep him warm.

Zartes Tüchlein für eine ältere Dame

die mutter meiner freundin ellen war schwer krank, dement und kam in ein heim, da sie zu hause nicht mehr betreut werden konnte. ich kannte sie zwar nicht, dachte mir aber, dass die alte dame dringend etwas schönes, weiches zu schmusen bräuchte. also spann ich hauchdünn alpaca und strickte in form einer pimpeliese dieses kleine, feine lace-tüchlein. wie ich im nachhinein erfahren habe, hat sie es wohl gern gemocht. sie ist mittlerweile verstorben.

the mother of my girlfriend ellen was seriously ill, and came in a rest home since she could no longer be cared for at home. although i did not know her in person, i thought that the old lady urgently needed something beautiful, soft and cuddly. So I spun very fine alpaca, and knitted this small, fine lace-shawlette. as i heared afterwards, she must have liked it. in the meantime she is deceased.

Mein erster Pullover aus selbst-bearbeiteter Wolle

während meines ersten urlaubs auf pellworm kaufte ich von einem bauern drei schafvliese, zwei weisse und ein dunkelbraunes. der bauer konnte mir leider nicht sagen, um was für eine rasse es sich handelte, er ging von einer texel-kreuzung aus. ich machte mich also an die arbeit, sortierte die wolle aus, wusch sie, kämmte sie mit handkarden (ich hatte noch keine kardentrommel), verspann sie, und als ich sie dann endlich verstricken durfte, wusste ich mehr als genau, wieviele stunden arbeit bisher darin steckten, noch bevor die erste masche angeschlagen war. umso liebevoller gestaltete ich meinen pullover. die wolle für die motive habe ich aus resten verschiedener kardenbänder gesponnen. es sollte ein reich bemusterter norweger-pullover sein. ich denke, das ist mir gelungen, und ich trage den pullover sehr gerne, auch in den übergangsjahreszeiten, wenn es abends schon kalt wird. erst war er doch recht kratzig, mittlerweile (ich weiss nicht warum) wird er immer geschmeidiger, je öfter ich ihn trage.

during my first vacation on pellworm i bought three sheep fleeces from a farmer, two white ones and a dark brown one. unfortunately the farmer could't tell my anything about the wool quality. he assumed his sheep to be a texel-mix-breed. so i knuckled down, sorted the wool, washed and carded it by hand (i did not have my drum carder yet), spun it and when i finally started knitting i really knew how many hours of work it took me until i got there...  the more i thought how to arrange the patterns for my norwegian sweater. the yarns for the contrast colours i have spun from roving lefties. i am happy with the result and i am wearing the pullover very much, even in the transitional seasons when it's getting cold at night. first was quite itchy , meanwhile (i do not know why ) it is getting smoother each time i wear it.

Kaffe Fassett Peacock Strickjacke

vor einiger zeit fand ich im internet die anleitung zu dieser wunderbaren strickjacke von kaffe fassett. glücklicherweise hatte ich sie mir gleich heruntergeladen, denn als ich vor einiger zeit wieder danach suchte (sie war einst auf der "rowan"-website), war sie nicht mehr da. fuer dieses projekt habe ich gotlandwolle dünn versponnen, 2-fädig verzwirnt und verstrickt, alle farben für die motive hatte ich aus bunten kammzugresten gesponnen. das chart zu lesen mit all den vielen farben war zwar eine sträflingsarbeit, aber das ergebnis macht mich immer noch glücklich. ich trage die jacke regelmässig. und LEIDER, LEIDER habe ich dabei feststellen müssen, dass die wahl der wolle die falsche war: ich hätte niemals gotland-wolle nehmen dürfen, sie pillt und filzt wie verrückt. eines tages wird sich die jacke wohl in eine art teppich verwandeln haben.... naja, solange sie nicht auch noch schrumpft, soll es mir recht sein.

some time ago i found the pattern on the 'Rowan' websit to this wonderful cardigan from kaffe fassett. fortunately, i had downloaded the pattern right when i saw it, in the meantime it is not to be found in the web any more. for this project i spun grey gotland wool as a 2-ply. all other colors for the motifs i had spun from roving left-overs. reading the chart with all these colors was indeed a convict labor, but the result still makes me happy. i wear the jacket regularly. and UNFORTUNATELY i found that i had chosen the wrong kind of fiber: i would never take gotland wool again for a cardigan since it pills like hell. one day, the jacket will probably turn into a kind of filthy carpet .... well, it is all right with me.

Hagen's Alpaca Merino Pullover

der winter kam mal wieder und damit verbunden die gedanken, was ich meinen lieben so alles zu weihnachten schenken wollte. da mein bruder keine kratzige wolle trägt, habe ich beschlossen, feine merinowolle mit alpaca zu verzwirnen, das sollte weich genug sein. die merinowolle habe ich mit ashford-farben eingefaerbt in unterschiedlichen rottönen. das alpaca war natur-dunkelbraun. ich spann daraus einen dicken zwirn, den ich gut mit nadelstärke 6 stricken konnte. entsprechend schnell war der pullover fertig. er war allerdings wirklich schwer, da ging jede menge material rein.

das bündchen sieht etwas verschrumpelt aus, was allerdings an dem gummizug liegt, den ich nachträglich eingenäht habe, damit der pulli nicht schlabbert an meinem schlanken bruder :-)

together with winter the thoughts came up what presents i could make for christmas. since my brother can't wear anything scratchy i have decided to ply fine merino wool with alpaca. that shoud do. the merino wool i have dyed with ashford colours in different shades of red, the alpaca was natural dark brown. i spun a pretty bulky yarn from it which i could knit quick and dirty with needle size 6. the sweater was really heavy since a whole lot f material was used.

the cuffs look a little shriveled, which is because of the rubber spring i had to work in since my brother is so slim...

Fallmaschen mit Seide

zu ehren des geburtstages meiner schwester hatte ich mir letztes jahr überlegt, eine sommerstrickjacke anzufertigen. leicht und luftig sollte sie sein. ich färbte also feine merinowolle in hellblau, spann sie und verzwirnte sie mit ungefärbter tussah-seide. die farbkombination gefiel mir gut als sommerjäckchen. verstrickt habe ich die jacke locker mit lace- und fallmaschenmustern. leider habe ich die jacke nicht mehr in fertigem zustand fotografiert. sie hat jedenfalls kurze aermel.

in honor to the birthday of my sister i decided to knit a light summer cardigan. so i dyed fine merino wool in light blue and twisted it with hand-spun and un-dyed tussah silk. i found that colour-cobination nice for this cardigan and knitted it with different kinds of lace patterns. unfortunately i had missed to take a photo of the jacket when finished - but, anyhow, it has short sleeves.

Und noch eine Christmas Rose

ich hatte die grüne 'christmas rose' so gerne gestrickt, dass ich das ganze noch einmal in seide haben wollte. also färbte ich feine tussah seide mit ashford-farben in rottönen. versponnen wurde die seide ganz einfach mit einer handspindel, da ich zu der zeit mein spinnrad nicht zur hand hatte. das ergebnis wurde ganz anders, als bei der kaschmir-version. ich hatte weniger maschen angeschlagen, die seide ist viel schwerer, daher wird beim tragen auch der schal viel dünner mit dem ergebnis, dass man von den vielen filigranen mustern nicht viel sieht. zudem rollt sich der schal auch ein wenig. die tragequalität allerdings ist hervorragend, man hat nie einen zu kalten und auch nie einen zu warmen hals. ich würde allerdings bei nächsten mal die seide mit etwas wolle mischen und die ränder anders arbeiten, damit sie sich nicht einrollen.

i was really fond of knitting the 'christmas rose' once more - but this time with pure silk. so i dyed tussah silk in different red (ashford colour). this time i spun the yarn with a hand-spindle. the result was quite different from the cashmere version. i had cast-on fewer loops, the silk was heavier and so the scarf stretched out pretty much so that you don't see so much from the pattern (especially when wearing it). moreover, the edges curl in a bit since i missed to make a purl/knit edge at both sides. however, the wearing quality is excellent since you never feel too hot or cold in it. certainly next time i would add some wool to the silk to make the result a bit more solid.

Christmas Rose Schal aus Kaschmir

die erfindung von mystery kals im internet finde ich grossartig. ich stricke gerne mit und lasse mich überraschen, was dabei herauskommt. diesmal wollte ich die christmas rose (ein weihnachts-mystery in 24 teilen; free download in ravelry: http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/lace-christmas-rose ) mitstricken. dazu spann ich hauchdünn das schöne kaschmir, das ich mir unlängst gekauft hatte, und färbte es mit dunkelgrün und zitronengelb relativ giftig ein. das ergebnis hat mir persönlich ausgesprochen gut gefallen. als ich aber etwa 5/7 des schals gestrickt hatte, ging mir das garn aus (hmm. man sollte vorher wirklich nachrechnen und besser schätzen, ob es reicht...), so dass ich nochmal kaschmir nachfärben musste. dabei gelang mir !natürlich! die originalfärbung nicht mehr. wie auch. ich hatte ja pi-mal-daumen gefärbt. ich habe einfach trotzdem weitergestrickt und mich mit der unterschiedlichen färbung abgefunden. und ich liebe diesen schal. das nächste mal werde ich aber gleich genug färben, das passiert mir nicht noch einmal. mittlerweile ist der schal in den besitz meiner freundin ellen übergegangen, die wohl schon eine zeit lang ein auge darauf geworfen hatte.

the invention of mystery knitalongs is a really great thing. you knit along with everybody in the internet and the outcome is a total surprise. this time the 'christmas rose' KAL was on (downloadable in ravelry; see link above). for this project i had spun a very fine cashmere lace yarn and colored it with dark green and lemon yellow (pretty toxic!). i found it great. but when i had knitted about 5/7 of the scarf i ran out of yarn. so i had to re-dye some cashmere. and since i had missed to note the details of the first dyed lot  !!of course!!  i was not able any more to hit the right colours... 

nevertheless i finished the scarf even with the slight colour mismatch. and i loved this scarf. next time i will have anough yarn so that this never will happen again. meanwhile i sold it to my friend ellen who obviously liked that piece right from the start.

Katja entdeckt Atelier Zitron

vor einiger zeit erfuhr ich über die handspinngilde im internet, dass ein woll- und spinnladen in kerpen eröffnete. nachdem das nur etwa 40 km von mit entfernt ist, beschloss ich, zur eröffnung mit einer freundin hinzufahren. nun, das haette ich mal besser nicht gemacht, ich hatte kaum den laden betreten, als ich schon zur bank musste, weil mir das geld ausgegangen war. nicht etwa, weil der laden so teuer war, sondern weil ich die finger nicht von den schönen sachen lassen konnte. ich kaufte tolles polarfuchs-kardenband, etwas kaschmir, etwas seide und sonst noch so einiges. ich stand schon an der kasse, als mein blick auf dieses wundervolle, bunte lacegarn von atelier zitron fiel. natürlich musste ich davon auch eines mitnehmen. damit war dann endgültig ebbe in meiner kasse. ich habe lange überlegt, was ich wohl daraus machen würde und empfand es schliesslich interessant, eine liaison mit einem dicken alpaca-garn einzugehen. das ergebnis war dieser fallmaschenschal:

ich trage ihn sehr gerne. loch an loch wärmt doch.
ich habe aus dem gleichen strang aufgrund der hohen lauflänge übrigens noch einmal den gleichen schal für meine schwester stricken können (allerdings mit grauer wolle, sah auch toll aus).

some time ago i read in the internet that a spinners shop opened in kerpen. due to the fact that there were only 40 km to drive i decided to go there at the opening day. hmm, i better should not have done that.
i hardly had entered the shop and i was almost bankrupt. that was not because the products were too expensive, but for i was absolutely unable to to keep my fingers from the beautiful stuff there (carded polar-fox wool, cashmere, silk....). i had almost finished my shopping as this very nice 'atelier zitron' yarn cought my eye. after that i really was broke...
i had thought a long time what to do with it and finally found this pattern which allowed a liaison between this very fine, wonderfully coloured lace yarn and a pretty bulky purpe alkaca single.

Kamele von Berlin nach Köln

etwas besonderes sollte es sein. ich hatte mir vorgenommen, ein schoenes, edles schultertuch zu stricken, aber aus besonders feinen materialien. also erst mal googeln.... und ich fand eine kamelfarm in der naehe von berlin, die mir kamelrohwolle zu einem vernünftigen preis verkaufte. natürlich kam die wolle völlig verstaubt bei mir an (kamele nehmen gerne sandbäder, jaja..), und ich brauchte tatsächlich eine staubmaske, bis ich alles sortiert und gepflückt hatte. nach dem waschen liess sich die wolle allerdings ganz gut kämmen und dünn verspinnen. ich hatte noch einige meter selbstgesponnenes kaschmir, seide und alpaka, die auch noch in das tuch einflossen. am rand und ein paar mal zwischendurch habe ich ein paar einfache lace-muster gestrickt, ansonsten ist das tuch recht einfach gehalten, damit die einzelnen schattierungen der kamelwolle (sie kam von verschiedenen tieren) wirken können. ich konnte mir allerdings nicht verkneifen, in die spitze ein paar perlen einzustricken. dieses tuch gebe ich nie wieder her. es ist federleicht, gross und entwickelt ein sehr angenehmes trageklima. manchmal sticht es allerdings ein bisschen, weil es mir nicht gelungen ist, jedes einzelne deckhaar herauszufischen...

i wanted it to become something special. i had planned a lovely, elegant shawl from very fine fibers. and via google i found a camel farm near Berlin where i could buy raw camel wool at a reasonable price. of course the wool was unwashed, dirty and dusty (yes, camels take sand-baths), and i really had to work with a mask until everything was sorted, picked and washed. after washing the wool was easily spinnable. i knitted some simple lace patterns here and there but kept the rest of the shawl as simple as possible to allow the different colours of the camels (it was wool from different camels) to take effect in the shawl. however, i could not resist to knit in a couple of beads...  i am absolutely happy with the piece. it is lightweight, big and it develops a pleasant warm and comfortable climate. sometimes it pricks a little bit since i was not able to fish out every single guard-hair...

Winterpullover - oder der Versuch, Gotland-Wolle zu fotografieren

mein damaliger freund sollte auch von meiner strickwut profitieren. frotzelt er doch immer "na, strickst du schon wieder!"----
nun, diesmal sollte es etwas für ihn werden. und damit das ergebnis auch schön weich wurde, habe ich gotland-wolle gesponnen und mit dunkelbraunem alpaka (ebenfalls handgesponnen) verzwirnt. das ganze kombiniert mit einem zopfmuster und perlmuster ergab diesen schönen pullover, der sich allerdings nur sehr schwer (und schlecht) fotografieren liess, da die gotlandwolle das blitzlicht so sehr zurückspiegelte. hier also der fotoversuch:

to get a nice and soft result i have spun and plied gotland wool and dark brown alpaca. easy left/right loops with a nice cable pattern. unfortunately it was very difficult to take a good picture due to the very shiny gotland wool which made it almost impossible to catch the structure.

Färben mit Ostereierfarben auf Arty Yarn

da hatte ich doch im internet gelesen, dass man hervorragend mit ostereierfarben wolle färben kann. das musste ich unbedingt ausprobieren. und da meine kleine nichte mal wieder ein geschenk brauchte, habe ich merino-kammzug mit verschiedenen ostereierfarben gefärbt, ein knubbeliges arty yarn gesponnen und ein kleines winterset daraus gestrickt. es ist ÄUSSERST bunt geworden, aber auch mit pink, und das ist fuer die kleine dame sehr wichtig, wie ich gelernt habe :-)

i had read on the internet that it is possible to dye fibers with easter egg colors. of course i had to try it. and since my little niece once more needed a present, i have dyed fine merino roving with different easter egg colours, spun a funny arty yarn with knots and knitted this winter set out of it. it has become VERY colorful, but also pink - and that is very important for the little lady, as i was told :-)

Wollmütze und verschiedene Stulpen

"was mache ich bloss mit der schönen wolle...." dachte ich. ich hatte merinowolle mit ashford-farben gefärbt und etwas dicker versponnen. eine farbenfrohe und weiche angelegenheit. und warm. also wurde daraus eine beanie-mütze für meine schwester mit passenden langen stulpen. und auch kurzen stulpen, weil noch etwas wolle übrig war. wenn mir mützen stehen würden, hätte ich das set selbst behalten.... das muster hatte ich mir selbst ausgedacht, es war ein spiraliges lochmuster, das ich auf muetze sowie stulpen anwenden konnte.

"what am i going to do with this nice wool ...." i thought. i had spun bulky merino wool dyed with ashford-colors in red/violet/blue. very colorful and smooth. and warm. well, i made a beanie hat with matching mitts for my sister out of it. and an additional pair of shorter mitts to use up the remaining yarn. if i would look any good with hats i would have kept the set myself ...

the pattern i 'invented' myself, it's a simple spiral hole pattern i could use on hat and mittens.

Alpaca Tüchlein für ein kleines Mädchen

wunderschönes, weiches alpaca-kardenband fand eines tages seinen weg zu mir nach hause. zudem brauchte ich noch ein kleines geschenk für meine kleine nichte. also verspann ich das wunderbare alpaca, verzwirnte es zum teil mit einem silbernen lurexfaden, verarbeitete noch ein paar kamelwolle- und sockenreste und strickte daraus ein einfaches, kuscheliges dreieckstüchlein. diesmal habe ich auch ordentlicher gesponnen...

one fine day some wonderful and soft alpaca-rowing found it's way to me. and i still needed a small present for my small niece. so i spun this georgeous alpaca fiber, partly plyed it together with a silver thread, added some camel wool and sockwool lefties here and there and knitted this simple, snugly shawlette. this time I have tried to spin finer and more neatly...

ach, ich habe die anleitung gesehen und musste sie sofort nachstricken. es war eine kostenfreie anleitung auf ravelry: http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/jellyfish-mitts . zufällig hatte ich an den tagen zuvor verschiedene, bunte merino kammzugreste zu kleinen knäueln versponnen und besaß somit ausreichend quallenfutter. schweren herzens habe ich mich letztens von den stulpen getrennt, da ich sie meiner freundin yvonne als gastgeschenk gemacht habe. aber sie ist es wert!

with a bleeding heart i gave away these cute mitts to my friend yvonne - but she deserves them!

Adrian's Navajo-Winterpullover 2011

und weil das brüderchen einen pullover bekommen hat, sollte adrian nicht leer ausgehen. daher habe ich merinowolle fein gesponnen, in verschiedenen blautönen gefärbt und nach der navajo-methode versponnen. der pullover liess sich wunderbar stricken, nur das spinnen hat sehr lange gedauert (ist bei der methode ja 3-fach verzwirnt).

and because his elder brother has got a pullover, adrian needed to have one, too. hence, i have spun merino wool, dyed it in different blue and plyed it in navajo way. the yarn was easy to knit, only the spinning latest eternally (since the yarn is plyed from 3 singles).

Adam's Winterpullover 2011

um meinem kleinen neffen adam einen weichen pullover zu weinhachten stricken zu können, habe ich letztes jahr feine merinowolle türkis gefärbt und tussah-seide hellgrau gefärbt und jeweils versponnen miteinander verzwirnt. das ergebnis war wirklich kuschelig und die farbgebung mochte ich auch. er hoffentlich ebenso...
:-)  ursprünglich hatte ich die rippen des musters mit dunkler wolle gesmokt (umwickelt), aber das sah sehr schroff aus, darum habe ich die umwickelungen wieder rausgezogen (und deshalb ist das rippenmuster auf den fotos auch etwas wellig).

last year i dyed fine merino wool in turquoise and tussah-silk in light grey, spun it and plyed the two materials, so that i had enough yarn for a pullover for my little nephew adam. the result was really cozy and i liked the colorway. i hope, he liked it, too... :-)

originally i had wrapped the rip pattern with dark wool, but that looked very gruffy, so I pulled out the wraps again (therefore the rib pattern looks a bit bumpy on this photo).
